Average, more style than substance
Overall I enjoyed this movie but I think it was more style than substance. The direction and visuals were excellent - it's possibly worth watching the movie solely for them, especially if that's your kind of thing. The aerial ballet and art exhibit scenes in particular (which you get a hint of in the trailer) were stunning. It's a well-made movie with a sufficient budget. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just say it reminded me of Knowing and Twelve Monkeys - however, compared to those two movies, the stakes felt rather low and the mystery was never particularly compelling, on top of being a little too predictable. I always felt I knew the general direction it was heading, even if I didn't have all the details yet.
Read spoilers before watching the movie!
This is one of the few movies where reading the spoilers beforehand will actually improve your viewing experience. So if you haven't seen the movie yet, keep reading and then watch the movie! ###Spoilers### This movie is all style, and no substance. It is about "feeling feelings" of something important going on, its about eternal love in a way, about cosmic fate, maybe a little bit of afterlife mythology and/or simulation theory sprinkled in. But don't keep your hopes up! There will be no resolution whatsoever. If you are looking for some kind of revelation at the end, you will be as disappointed as I was. But now you know, so you can watch the movie, enjoy the scenes, the beautiful actors and the sparkling atmosphere for what they are (style over substance), and don't feel betrayed when you find out that all those threads were never meant to lead you anywhere. Best of luck!
Slow and ultimately pointless
Although production values were fine, the story was confused, evolved far too slowly without a sense of progression, and ultimately never came close to an ending that merited the tedious slog through the movie. My companion for the evening is a big (and tolerant) sci-fi fan, but she was fidgeting early on in the movie, and when a character utters the words, "I'm so sorry about tonight" I could only turn to her and repeat the line. If you're looking for a thought-provoking sci-fi movie, you can skip this one, and if you are expecting a romance along the lines of The Time Traveler's Wife or The Lake House, the story and performances are just not compelling enough to pull that off. Sorry, but give it a miss.
Enjoyable sci-fi thriller that doesn't pretend to be something it's not.
Keeping this short, I don't understand why there's so many negative reviews of this flick. I see a repeating pattern for genre movies such as this, in that the sex & explosions popcorn actioner crowd seem to take it personally when they don't understand what's going on. Above average movies such as this and other hidden gems like "Predestination" get an unfair rap from the instant gratification legions, who seemingly don't like any pointed reminders that they're stupid. Good casting, locations, cinematography and a breathtaking soundtrack used to the best possible effect make this a welcome addition to the stable of movies that you wouldn't usually watch because of all the naysayers, but are glad you did once you do. Yeah, there's some minor plothole issues and the pacing was a bit confusing at times, but the good far outweighs the bad. Watch it.
My eyes...they burn
What started out as a promising film with a decent sound track at times and more than average visuals, quickly turned into the film equivalent of autism. It lulls you into a false sense of security thing "hmm you know what this may actually go somewhere"but it just doesn't, then it adds in some more details to make up for the fact it makes absolutely zero sense. It's like the writers were high, like when you think you have a fantastic idea but really it's just the weed tricking you. The links and Blanks this film expects you to make you need to do as much writing as Dylan does on his glass panels just to make sense of any of it. I cringed so much at times that my toes pretty much curled up, I'm a huge fan of alternative reality/time loop genre but this film just a random mixture of pointless links which in a random and bizarre way link to a star going supernova, I'd go as far as saying one of the worst films I've ever seen
