Not The Greatest, But Kinda Fun
I happened to catch this movie a while back and gave it a shot because I like Raven-Symone and Beth Broderick. Of course, with this movie you need to keep in mind that it's an ABC Family original movie, so it'd be silly to have high expectations. Yes, I noticed a big issue 20 minutes before the characters did, and knew exactly how things would turn out for the bridesmaids halfway through the movie, but I still enjoyed it. No, the movie will probably not wow you. I honestly can't remember laughing a single time throughout (but I think the "Saw" movies are funny, so that probably says something.) The acting was fine, and the plot was just okay, but I did like the Raven and Joanna Garcia dynamic. In my opinion, it was just a pretty standard ABC Family TV movie. If you enjoy this type, you'll probably like it. If not, you won't.
Raven to the rescue
Revenge of the Bridesmaids is an inoffensive, zippy film with some broad acting and even broader comedy. Raven plays Abigail Scanlon and Joanna Garcia is Parker Wald who return to their hometown and learn that their old friend has lost her boyfriend to another friend, Caitlin who is also a conniving gold digger pretending to be pregnant in order to marry him. They go undercover as Caitlin's bridesmaids in order to sabotage the wedding but it goes rather awry. Nevermind that the groom who has left one woman and gone out with her friend comes across as a douche bag. Raven is energetic with her comedy but its also a bit silly and infantile. As its an ABC family comedy it does lack a satirical edge.
Totally not worth watching!
I watched the movie last night, and regret wasting an hour and a half of my life on something as horrible as that. P.S: This comes from a girl who loves romance movies and chick flicks. After an argument with his girlfriend, Tony goes out and has a one night stand with a girl who trough their entire childhood treated Rachel (his girlfriend) like crap. Claiming she got pregnant after the one night stand Tony ends up engaging her. Abigail and Parker, two of Rachel's childhood friends, make plans of revenging Bridezilla for stealing their friend's man and win him back. I'm not going to spoil the movie, but I have to say that what they do to revenge her is nothing but childish and stupid. And how come they don't blame Tony for what he did? I'd say he's a bigger idiot than Bridezilla! The movie ended up frustrating and irritating me, and is not recommended for anyone to see!
Mediocre Tripe
Bridesmaid #1 has a fight with her true love, who then sleeps with Bridezilla who then tricks him into thinking she's pregnant so she can marry him and access his millions. Bridesmaids #2 and 3 plot with Bridesmaid #1 to take Bridezilla down and re-unite the oblivious groom with Bridesmaid #1. It being an ABC Family movie, I had low expectations that were more than aptly met. Unoriginal jokes, plot, and characters. I really would hope that most teenagers are a little smarter than people in Hollywood seem to think. "Romantic comedies" are based around the fact that no one can communicate clearly, and this one is I suppose meant to be fun and nonsensical, but that doesn't make it better by any means. I'm rather saddened that Hollywood has yet again misplaced blame. Yes, Bridezilla was an awfully outrageously crooked person, but I'd say Bridesmaid #1 and the groom should have had the sense to resolve their "one little argument" before the groom goes off and decides he's gonna have a one night stand with someone. If you're in as much love as they repeatedly claim these two are, you'd think they would have a more solid foundation. Chryssie Whitehead as Bridesmaid #1 is the only good thing about this "movie". I saw her in an episode of In Plain Sight, and she killed all the scenes she was in. She has so much sweetness and expression, she puts the lousy acting abilities of the two top-billing actresses, JoAnna Garcia and the awful Raven-Symone, to shame. Only see it on TV, if you wanna see it at all.
This is great!
This is a great movie! My youngest (6) and I watch it a lot. It's funny, simple story line, and satisfying. Two childhood friends make a trip back home and find their third friend lost her love to the fourth of their group. Through hilarious encounters and flubs, they find the truth and turn the tables on the evil not-so-great-friend with an ultimate revenge that encompasses the entire town. During their escapades, one finds love, one confronts her weight, and other learns to stand up for what's hers. And one learns...you can't have everything. My favorite quote: "That b.... That bii.. THAT BIIIIIIIITCH!!!" I can't get it perfect, but it's so funny.
